Cooling and soothing are two things we often seek during the steamy summer months. Many essential oils have these characteristics, and they can be used in a variety of applications, from mists to shower gels and body washes to shaving lotions and beyond. Select your favorite oils and preparations — or have fun experimenting with new ones — and relief is at hand! You can even keep it as simple as opening a bottle of peppermint oil, inhaling. “Ahh …”

Some of the best known oils with cooling, soothing or refreshing benefits are chamomile (German, Roman and wild), clary sage, frankincense, geranium, lavender, lavender tea tree, lemon tea tree, neroli, peppermint and spearmint. Aura Cacia also carries essential oil blends specifically formulated for use in DIY recipes. Two of these blends, Drench and Freshen, are especially appropriate for summertime and bring the combined benefits of lavender, bergamot, sweet orange and more.

To get you started, here is a simple recipe for a soothing facial mist that you can take with you for relief wherever you roam this summer.

Face Mist with Raspberry Seed Oil

1 teaspoon Aura Cacia® Sweet Almond + Raspberry Fruit Seed Oil

24 drops Aura Cacia® Lavender Essential Oil

Aura Cacia® 2 fl. oz. Amber Bottle with Writable Label

1 1/2 fluid ounces water

Combine oils in a bottle and top off with water. Replace lid and shake until well blended. To use, shake bottle, close eyes and mist face and neck.
